My partner Will and I spent a morning at the small dog beach run on a Saturday with some friends and their little guys. We are both big dog lovers and had been uncles to many of our friends pets, always offering dog sitting and often just picking up their dogs for an afternoon.
We had just moved in together a few months before and wanted to wait a while before getting a dog of our own, but after a clear day at the beach surrounded by cute dogs we felt compelled to look.
We started off at the ASPCA and then animal control and met some great dogs. We were so eager to fall in love, but I kept saying that it had to feel right and we would know- and all the dogs we saw just didn’t feel right.
Years ago I had worked on Fillmore street a block away from Pets Unlimited and suddenly remembered it. Although we were deflated and tired at that point, we decided to stop by and “just look”.
Dr. Watson (originally Romo) walked up to us while we were looking at the bulletin board of pets. He literally stared me right in the eye like he had been waiting for me. We both said hello to the cutie but since we were “just looking” we left- and made it about 2 blocks before we came back.
Over the months we have had him he has blossomed into quite a character and has worked to overcome his social anxiety. He is a smart guy who has learned a lot of new tricks, has gotten along great with new people, and has given us so much love.
Watson has been a tremendous addition to our little family. We thank him everyday for choosing us to love and feel so blessed and lucky to have him. And we thank Pets Unlimited for the fantastic job they did with him, keeping him safe and happy until he was ready for us to come and take him home with us.
