Adoption Information

The same general procedure applies whether adopting a dog, cat or a kitten. All interested candidates are asked to complete an adoption application and sit through a short interview with one of our adoption counselors. We require proof that a pet will be legally permitted in the home. (A copy of a rental agreement for tenants or a mortgage statement from a homeowner is acceptable.) If everything seems to match up well, signing necessary forms and payment of adoption fees will complete the process.

Although this may seem like a long procedure to adopt a pet, we try to take every step possible to ensure both our feline friends and our clients will be happy. Our Adoption Center staff treats each animal as family and knows the individual cat personalities well. We are always happy to offer suggestions or advice when someone is trying to decide which cat or kitten would be best for their individual situation.

Cat Adoption Procedures

Every cat or kitten adopted will be spayed or neutered before it can go home. During this surgery a microchip is also implanted, which can be used to assist in the recovery of a missing animal. Each animal is also treated, as necessary, for parasites, including ear mites, fleas and a variety of internal worms and parasites. A standard FVRCP vaccination is given. Finally, every adopted cat or kitten is entitled to a free post adoption check-up within the first thirty days of being at home.

Dog Adoption Procedures

Dog adoption procedures are similar to a cat adoption. Microchip implants, spay and neuters, vaccines and parasite treatments, and the post-op check-up are done for each dog in the shelter.

Special Needs Animals

Among all our healthy animals, we often take on special needs animals that do not have a chance anywhere else. At any time we may have a three-legged dog, a one-eyed (or even blind) cat or an animal that has some sort of ailment that would deem it un-adoptable elsewhere. We strive to give these needy animals a chance on life.

There are many ways to help support our cause, whether it be a monetary donation to the Shelter Rescue Fund, the purchase of a Pets Unlimited t-shirt, bringing in unopened cans of cat food, or most importantly, adopting an animal in need of companionship. More Ways to Help...
